Getting the Most Enjoyment Out of Weekend Golf!
Most of us recreational golfers only get to play once or
twice a week if we are lucky. Adding to this travesty is we practice even less.
This can make for a long day on the golf course when we do get the chance to
break away from the “to-do list” and go play a round with our friends. How do
we get the most enjoyment of these never enough rounds of golf? The answer is
in the short game.
The little time you get to work on your game needs to be
spent on the short game. Focus on 125 yards and in and practice putting. This
is where you will save the most strokes and lower your score. Consistently
making bogeys and pars is the best way to put pressure on your buddies and win
bragging rights for the next week. Using your buddy’s money to buy a “round”
after the round doesn’t hurt either.
I recommend you carry at least four wedges, a pitching
wedge, a gap wedge, a sand wedge, and a lob wedge. Practice with these wedges
getting to know how far your hit each one, and I guarantee you will start
shooting lower scores. Getting hot with the putter helps too. It has helped me
shoot consistently in the low 90’s to low 80’s with a personal best 77
recently. For the recreational, weekend golfer, we cannot expect much more than
this. For most of us, this will help us get the most enjoyment out of weekend
golf.
